What should I do in regards to Dell 200 XPS enclosure and fan?

Posted by admin 27 May, 2010

Hello!

i\’ve had a Dell XPS 200 PC for a year and a half and while the computer performs great for the most part, the fan is extremely loud. It seems to be making a great deal of noise all the time and it has gotten progressively louder. I was looking to perhaps replace the enclosure/case, but I don’t know a thing about working with computer hardware.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do with the enclosure and have any ideas which would be a good replacement? i\’m not sure if that would solve the problem. If anyone knows what would, I would appreciate it. My Dell warranty has now expired, so I want to explore other options before going through them.

Additionally, i\’ve a TV Tuner. i\’m not sure how much difference that makes.

Many thanks in advance!
I should add that I did a Google search in advance “Dell XPS 200 noisy fan” and found this to be a widespread problem. i\’m wondering if replacing the fan would make an difference, since apparently the computer heats up a lot because there needs to be more space.

Just replace the fan that is causing the problem.

Not neccesary to replace the enclosure..just replace the fan…you can open up the case and remove it and go to a computer store like Compusa and ask for a similar fan..

Replacing the enclosure is overkill replace the fan or in some cases the power supply
But have you ever cleaned the inside of the mach especially the fan(s)?
East to do with a can of compressed air, ask at any Staples ,Best Buy or Radio Shack.
