What can the new aluminum Macbook do without buying any other stuff?

I just bought a new Macbook for school and I was just wondering what exactly the Macbook itself can do. I just bought the unit and nothing else. The concierge that was helping me was saying that I needed to buy some other things for me to fully get the Macbook experience, but I didn’t really understand what he was saying. I just need to know what is essential to buy for school purposes for the Macbook.
