Does your Laptop use DDR2 or DDR?

    What speed is the memory?

It may not be the right kind then. If it is beeping, then it is not being read properly.

make sure its plugged in correctly. make sure its the right ddr. make sure you ground yourself befire touching any computer parts because you wouldnt want to fry you cpu or something. and maybe your computer has a limit to how much ram it can hold. most laptops do. but even if you have more in it, it should still start up…

Either it was the wrong type (not compatible), the memory it self is defective, or you laptop can’t do more then 256MB RAM. I have a feeling you have the wrong type.

A common error is to fail to properly seat the memory cards in their slots. Most of the time, we are talking about a setup in which something has to “snap” in place as a clamp at either end of the mem card. If it didn’t snap, you don’t have it seated properly.

Also, when you added the 512, did you remove the 256 or leave it? Some computers won’t allow size mixes to be unbalanced. Look in the owner’s manual about allow upgrade configurations. In my machine, for example, I can have 2 mem cards or 4 mem cards, but not 3 – because of something called interleaving. (It’s an addressing thing that makes memory more efficient in the long run.)

As long you put the chip in corretly, then that’s a problem with the BIOS. If the hardware configuration doesn’t match the BIOS it won’t boot to windows. Your machine was configured to run 256. Your going to have to change the BIOS settings to allow more. I would leave to a professional! If you mess up even a little you may end up buying a new computer. Put the old chip back in for now.
