Sounds like you need the driver for the desktop audio, not the desktop speakers.Try microsoft updates for the driver if they don’t have it search the internet for the computer’s audio driver…Steve
Yep, you need the driver for the specific Realtek sound chip (sound card) you have. Realtek OEMs their chips for many manufacturers. Realtek doesn’t sell directly to the consumer, and because of this, they don’t make their drivers available directly either. They give the basic driver code to the system manufacturers. The manufacturers can add their own bells and whistles (e.g., logos, special mute handling such as integration with a mute button [on laptops], and volume controls) if they so choose. Generally, you have to go to the manufacturer for the drivers.
So what we need to know is what brand and model of desktop or laptop you have, or if you added a sound card yourself, what brand/model of sound card or if you built this system yourself and are using a motherboard’s built in sound, what motherboard do you have (brand and model number, of course). If you go to the website for the computer, sound card, motherboard manufacturer, you’ll usually find the drivers there in their support section.
Since you just installed XP there may be multiple drivers still needing installation. I would use an automatic driver update utility. It will scan your system to identify your devices and then locate and download the proper drivers for each device. Download the free scan from http://www.pcdriverupdate.com and see what it finds.
I hope it helps, good luck to you!
