I update my essallegro driver ES1988_xp1167_sign_571437 in a compaq pres 5bw143 on winXP, it does’t work? why?

I want to know if this drive must work with winXP service pack2 an compaq presario serie 5000. I already follow the solver help included in windows and I could not find the problem, thanks in advance

Your Compaq didnt come with XP, but probably Win98. When you load up XP, it has the drivers for everything but the sound card. Type ESS Allegro drivers into your web browser to get to the ESS site and download the XP drivers for ESS Allegro. The XP drivers for ESS are different from WIN98. Good Luck!!!!!
