thats a stupid idea. What you could do is buy some black contact paper from wal-mart ( its like a big sticker and a lot cheaper than Skins) OR purchase a Speck See Through Notebook Cover from the apple website or store. I didn’t want a plain white one either, so i bought one along w/ the computer. every1 thinks my mac is red. It snaps right on

Hey. For the macbook, your not supposed to paint a laptop, if the paint accidentally gets “in”, your laptop’s screwed. And plus, your laptop will smell REALLY bad.

However, if you really want to paint it black…go for it. Try spray-paint, it’ll keep the laptop nice. You’ll probably want to stick with spray paint so it won’t chip off as easily and maybe a topcoat.” Also, you know…you can buy skins for laptops?

You could buy a black skin for your macbook.

Try using rustoleum plastic paint. IT doesn’t need a primer and the finish should come out really nice. And you can get different finished like hammered finish, to add a little bit more psot of cool! I personally, wouldn’t paint a laptop but you can and let us know how it turns out! Good Luck!

I would take it apart and you will probably have to rough up the surface a little. Use a high grit sand paper and just lightly sand it till you get a dull result. cheap spray paint isn’t good for it but a couple of coats with a nice pant with a paint sealer on it should work. check Lowe’s or home depot for best prices. good luck.

I was actually shocked at how many people said not to try it. There are people on ebay and some computer personlizers I know i my own area that make their money out of customizing laptops into other colors so evidently there has to be a way to do it effectively right?

Recently I saw a very nice (old generation clamshell) apple ibook painted purple and white with some gold detailing. Sorry I can’t be more help I just thought Id stop in to say there has to be some way I think.

    Applause to answer 1.

I have no real clue about this, but I think I’d be checking with Apple to see what painting a MacBook might do to any waurantees.

The thing would have to be precisely masked for one thing; and spray paint will find any OOOPS you made in securing the GUTS, or monitor; ports; etc; from oversprays.

Certainly I’d check into the SKINS, but beyond that I think; if I was you; I’d be checking with Apple to learn why there is a price difference.

With all due respect there is another issue. My Notebook takes it’s share of abuse; in bumping; scraping etc. That may become VERY obvious on one that’s painted over.

Finally; in my opinion; there is the issue of the PURPOSE of the machine. It seems a trendy fad in so many areas of the electronics business to add color; but I’ve never known color to adversely/or positively affect the action of any appliance.

    follow these simple steps:

1-take a 5 gal bucket and fill it with black paint.

2-gently submerge the entire macbook into the bucket.

3-let it soak for about 5 min… no more, no less.

    4-hang dry for 24 hours.

5-while it’s drying, think about how mindless this question is.
