Alright first of all you need internet access such as dsl or cable.
Get a good router for it.(linksys)
install router to a desktop computer.
    plug router into computer.
set password(if you don’t want your internet to be busy and slow down)

a few things that may or may not make a difference.
first, make sure that your modem, if it is running off a splitter is on the first split. i.e. there should only be one splitter inbetween your modem and your in-coming cable line.
for true test speeds, always use it plugged, so untill you figure this out, make sure that youre running direct.
if you are running through a splitter, make sure it is not an RF modulator.

really, for good measure, you should plug direct into the modem, and then from modem direct into the in-coming coaxial. if there’s still a problem, you know its either your modem, which i doubt, but it may be possible, or its the cable lines/ cable co.
you’d also want to be sure that its a cood ethernet cable, and really, you should be able to figure it out.
try a couple different coax lines in your house… and call your cable co and see if they have a bandwidth test website.

im here in lasvegas, and cox cable has a site
