My 5 yr old Fujitsui Siemens Lifebook finally bit the dust last year. The cost of fix wasn’t worth it. I want to recycle it but am worried about personal info in the hard drive. I’ve heard of this being recovered and used. Since I can’t even turn the notebook on how do I remove the data?

take the hard drive out and keep it or send to a professional to destroy it
Give it to authorized recycling center. Some one like Siemens, Nokia.. They will not recover it. If you still don’t want to do it, take out your hard disk and give the rest.
Build out the harddrive to keep it by removing the screws under your laptop. Usually under a plastic cover down on your laptop. Buy an USB external case for like 5$ and connect it to your new PC and copy delete the data or what ever. Cheers.
5yrs old Hard drive is propably an IDE PATA. just take the HDD to the store and ask for a case which fits it. Also some stores take back old hardware for recycle and give some credit for it.
If you are not familiar dismantling your laptop, then you could see a technician from your brand’s technical support center. And let them remove the hard disk for you to be able to recover the data inside.
