How do I make a stereo recording on a Macbook Pro?

Posted by admin 22 April, 2010

On my Windows notebook, which didn’t have an internal mic, I used to be able to use Audacity to make a stereo mix recording of audios on the notebook – how can I get my Macbook to do the same thing please? It isn’t working at the moment because it is recording from the built in mic, which I don’t want it to do right now.
Thanks for your help!

To change the input settings for your sound you’ll want to go this route:

System Preference > Sound > Input

Then select the input device you want to use. You may also have to change the input in the recording software you are using. Be sure not to confuse a stereo recording and a stereo mix though a stereo recording is one source being recorded at the same time with two mics, a stereo mix is achieved by panning (moving sound left or right), reverb, etc. in the stereo field.

    First
Go to System Preferences, Sound, Input – select the source input of choice. One of the internal sources other than mic.

Then, in your audio recording ap, select the same audio SOURCE as you selected above. You will probably have one of two or both of these options:
    1 – Stereo – left/right in one track
2 – Two separate tracks, one for left channel and one for right channel.

Of course from that point make sure that the recording tracks are armed – ready to record

    Good luck!
