Buy a replacement battery for your laptop.

Your batteries are probably about dead. You could order new batteries, or just buy new laptops since they are getting real inexpensive.

your battery in the laptop is fried or dead must buy a new one to run for around 2-3 hrs with new battery

the battery may be deffective like the other say but juss to tell u never over chrge the laptop bcuz thats what happens so u would most likely have to get a replacement.

This is a walk-through for Windows 7, but should be similar for Windows XP and Vista.
On your taskbar, there is battery icon. You want to right-click that, go to “Adjust power options” or something similar. If you’re missing the icon, go to Control Panel, and choose “Change Battery Settings” under the “Power Options” category, which is under “Hardware and Sound.” Choose the highest performance power plan, and click “Change plan settings.” From here, you can change the sleep settings while you’re “on battery” (change it from “5 minutes” to “never”).

On the other hand, if this is not the problem, it could be that your battery is simply too old to hold enough charge to power your laptop for more than 5 minutes. You may want to buy a new one.
