Can I Use Dell XPS 1330 as Wifi access point?

Posted by admin 3 May, 2010

My Dell XPS 1330 has built in Broadband, BT and WiFi. Is it possible to let others share in the broadband connection (ATT)? MS connectionsharing does not work.

You cant use your computer as a access point. The wireless adapter built into your computer can only make a single wireless connection, usually to a router. It can be connected to one computer to share internet, but you have to setup your adapter for a ad-hoc network, and a ad-hoc connection will be very unstable and only run at a maximum 1.5Mb/s between the two computers.

If you want to share your internet connection just purchase a wireless router to connect to your BT modem.

You should submit this question on the Dell Community Forum. They have a portion of it dedicated for XPS computers. I’ve used it because I have a M1530 and I’ve gotten help fairly quickly.
